The Creation Series is seven mixed media paintings on wood panel - one for each day of Genesis 1. I'm not illustrating the text. I'm inside it, trying to paint what it might have felt like to be present when something came from nothing, when darkness was named, when separation was necessary before anything whole could exist.
This series is in progress. Seven days. Seven paintings. Come back.
Day 01 | yehi or - let there be light.
Before anything existed, God spoke. And what he said became. The light arrived before the sun, which means what God called into being wasn't a star or a source. It was the condition of light itself.
He looked at it and said good. Not finished. Not perfect. Just… good.

Day 02 | vayavdel — and He separated.
Day Two is the only day God didn't call good. He made the firmament, pushed the waters above from the waters below, and moved on. No "it was good." Not yet.
I think He already knew separation wasn't the end of the story. It just had to be, for a time.
vayavdel is scratched into the expanse itself. Not at the edges. In the middle. Where the separation lives.

Day 03 | v'teira'eh hayabashah - let the dry land appear.
The waters were told to gather. And beneath them - already there, already waiting - the land appeared.
Not made. Revealed. That's what the Hebrew says. Yabashah, dry ground, the same word Moses would stand on centuries later when the sea split open. This moment in Genesis is quiet, but it carries everything that comes after.
The dark pulls back. The earth holds its ground.

Day 03 | deshe - let the earth bring forth.
The land had just appeared. It didn't get to rest.
Immediately, the same day, the earth was told to bring forth. Deshe. Green growth. Every kind of plant, every kind of tree, seed carrying seed inside it. The first day anything was alive.
There's no sun yet. No rain. No gardener. The earth just... did it. Because it was told to.
